Mobile Computing for Health Care

Did you get a new smart phone or iPad for Christmas?

Wondering what premium clinical content is available to you through Affinity Library Services?

We just updated our Resource Guide for Mobile Computing for Healthcare.

Navigate there :  Affinity Intranet > Library > Mobile Computing

Mobile Computing for Healthcare   (Affinity Access Only)

Many of our subscription databases offer a mobile version. Most of them are web-enabled, not technically an “app” that you would download to a device. In that respect, it doesn’t matter what brand of smartphone/tablet you have. Some of these are worth a look …

Premium resources available to you as an Affinity employee :
  • AccessMedicine Mobile
  • MDConsult Mobile
  • FirstConsult Mobile
Stop by and you’ll find other free and recommended apps and mobile resources.

Do have an app that you love? Tell us about it!

AccessMedicine Mobile works on iPad, and other Samll Screens

The AccessMedicine™ from McGraw-Hill mobile view features an essential portion of the site's content optimized for the unique size and speed constraints of mobile browsers. To that end, the following content is available in the mobile view:

• Harrison's Online
• CURRENT Medical Diagnosis and Treatment 2011
• Picture Galleries from Fitzpatrick's Color Atlas and Synopsis of Clinical Dermatology, 6e
• Clinician's Pocket Reference: The Scut Monkey, 11e
• CURRENT Practice Guidelines in Primary Care 2009
• Diagnostic Tests from Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests, 5e
• Quick Answers
• Diagnosaurus
• Drug monographs

To access the mobile version of the site, you must log in using a personal profile name and password created at http://www.accessmedicine.com/.  If you have not created such a profile, please visit the site on a nonmobile (regular) browser, select the "My AccessMedicine" tab, and follow the directions for creation of a personal profile. Once complete, you may return to the mobile view and use that username and password to access the site.

You’ll also find a link for AccessMedicine on the Library Intranet website.

Many health care professionals are using mobile devices in clinical settings to enhance patient care as well as their own continuing education.

We’ve recently updated our road map for
Mobile Computing : Smart Phones, PDAs, and PocketPCs (Affinity access only).

On it, you’ll find a listing of selected free and low-cost options for all types of mobile devices. Sources include options for :
* Drug info

This list is not meant to be comprehensive. If you want to suggest an addition to the list, let me know. I’d love to hear what you’re using!
